Crash on Interstate 74 claims life of man

Car accidents are an unfortunate side effect of the regular use of automobiles throughout the nation. Sadly the Champaign area is not an exception. While the majority of car accidents that occur each day are minor fender benders which result in minor, if any, damage or injury, in certain circumstances the outcome can be devastating. In the worst cases death is the result.
Sadly, a fatal car accident recently occurred outside of Champaign on Interstate 74. The crash, which involved a total of three vehicles, claimed the life of a 44-year-old man.
According to law enforcement officers something caused the vehicle the deceased man was driving to cross into the median. The vehicle landed in oncoming traffic after first flipping over. Once there, a tractor-trailer was unable to avoid striking the vehicle and hit it launching the man out of the vehicle. The man was declared dead at the scene apparently due to the massive blunt force trauma he experienced.
The wreckage from the truck accident wreaked havoc for another vehicle that could not move to avoid it. Though the vehicle in that case was damaged, fortunately the driver was not hurt. It does not appear that the truck driver was injured either.
Information is not yet available regarding what caused the vehicle driven by the man who died to leave the road on which it was travelling. It is likely that cause will be determined in the course of the investigation that is being conducted. Should it be determined that another person or entity is to blame for the man’s untimely death, it is possible that a civil lawsuit could be filed by his loved ones.
