While some health experts are constantly debating the health benefits or risks posed by consuming coffee, it turns out that the machines themselves can be deadly. One recent workplace accident has taken the life of a well-known coffee expert. He was reportedly engaged in working on a machine in a Illinois coffee shop.
According to officials, the man was attempting to install a sizeable coffee dispenser when he became unbalanced. Apparently, he sought to reestablish his footing by placing some of his weight on the machine. However, instead of providing a secure resting place for him, the machine somehow toppled over on top of him.
The man suffered severe injuries to his head and thorax. In spite of the best efforts of emergency personnel, he eventually succumbed to his injuries at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The man had a reputation throughout the coffee industry as an expert on brewing techniques and machinery.
This workplace accident was considered a freak accident. Many who knew the victim expressed deep sorrow for the loss of his life and praised his contributions to the coffee industry. Illinois workers who suffer a work-related injury or illness will most likely qualify for workers’ compensation insurance benefits. If the victim in this particular case has left family behind, they may qualify for death benefits under this program. Those who have questions concerning the filing of a claim have resources they can consult for information on how to smoothly navigate the process and have their claim handled in a timely fashion.
