Worker injured on the job by maintenance cart

Workplace accidents are not always a clear-cut case of safety negligence. In some circumstances, unfortunate accidents simply happen, putting Illinois workers in despondent and desperate situations as they struggle to recover after being injured on the job. When that happens, workers’ compensation is usually an invaluable lifeline.

A worker at historic Grand Central Station was severely injured when he somehow became lodged underneath a maintenance cart. It is not entirely clear what happened just prior to the accident, but an employee at a nearby food court reportedly heard the man screaming for help and discovered that he was unable to free himself. Eventually, the worker passed out because of the intense pain he was experiencing.

Another witness claims that both of the worker’s legs were covered in blood when emergency responders pulled him to safety. He was transported to an area hospital where he was stabilized, but officials did not release any further details regarding his condition. It appears that he suffered severe damage to both of his legs and could possibly be out of work for quite some time.

Medical bills and daily living expenses often begin to pile up as soon as a worker is injured on the job, making some victims feel as though they must rush back to work before they have completely recovered. The financial worry that plagues so many injured workers in Illinois does not have to be a constant concern, and can indeed be alleviated by workers’ compensation benefits. These benefits allow workers to take the necessary time to recover before returning to work, potentially preventing further or additional injuries.
