Hospital construction worker transported to ER after fall

In an unusual Illinois construction accident that occurred earlier this week in Naperville, a construction worker was working on the exterior of a hospital when his worksite became his recovery site. The man needed to be brought to the emergency services department of Edward Hospital when construction material fell onto him and he was subsequently injured.

When the man was struck by the fallen debris, he subsequently fell onto a level of the hospital below him. The man fell onto an area that was not easily accessible by rescue crews, so multiple firefights were called to the workplace accident scene, and a crane needed to be used in order to lower the injured worker safely to the ground in order to get him the medical attention that he needed.

The Naperville Fire Department Bureau Chief said, “We secured him in that (basket), attached that to the hook on the crane and coordinated the efforts to get him down with the crane operators.” Reportedly, no additional workers were injured in this Illinois construction accident, and operations at the hospital were not disrupted.

The extent of this workers injuries and his prognosis for recovery have not been reported. Hopefully the construction worker will be able to make a full and speedy recovery from his injuries.

Unfortunately, it may not be that simple. Construction accidents in Illinois very often yield serious injuries that prevent a worker from being able to return to their job for quite some time, if ever. However, injured workers in Illinois can be eligible to collect workers’ compensation benefits to cover medical expenses and lost wages following a workplace accident that yields injury.
