3 men injured in construction accident when building collapses

Illinois readers of this blog may be interested to learn the details of a construction accident that happened recently in a northeastern state. Three men suffered injuries in the construction accident. The incident is currently under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and representatives from the local fire department.

The accident happened when the roof of a multi-story building that was under construction collapsed. The accident caused a “pancake” reaction in which one floor fell onto the next floor, one after the other. Seven floors were leveled in this manner, according to reports.

Officials are not certain where in the building the three men were working when they sustained their injuries. Two of them suffered injuries that emergency personnel did not feel were life-threatening, although one man did have a head wound that was considered serious. Both were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The third victim suffered an injury to his wrist and also received treatment at the local hospital, according to reports. No condition updates were available at the time of this report.

The site at which the accident occurred is a 33-floor residential building in Boston. Around 120 workers are onsite regularly, which makes it somewhat miraculous that more people were not injured in this construction accident. The men who were hurt retain the right to seek workers’ compensation benefits. Successful claims could provide them with the means they need to cover any medical expenses and reimbursement for lost income. Most workers, whether in Illinois or elsewhere, would find that invaluable.
