Man killed in Illinois truck accident that involved several cars
On behalf of Jeffrey Frederick of Frederick & Hagle posted in Truck Accidents on Thursday, July 3, 2014.
Because tractor-trailers are carrying a considerable amount of weight, it is important that truck drivers are able to keep their vehicles under control. If they are speeding or going too fast for conditions, a serious accident could quickly occur. Should a truck accident take place, the driver could face potential charges depending on the outcome of the situation.
A similar accident recently took place in Illinois that involved several vehicles. Reports state that a semi-truck driver failed to reduce speed during rush hour and, as a result, collided with another vehicle. That vehicle was pushed into a ditch. The car that was hit also crashed into three other vehicles.
It was also reported that an occupant of the first vehicle that was hit — a 74-year-old male — suffered fatal injuries. It was not clear whether any of the other individuals involved in the accident were harmed in the event. It was noted that the driver of the semi-truck was given a citation for failure to reduce speed. Because the situation resulted in a fatality, other charges could potentially stem from the accident.
This devastating truck accident will likely have repercussions for many individuals. A fatality situation should always be approached with the utmost care to ensure that the correct conclusions are made. As authorities make their reports, the family members of the man killed in the accident may also wish to make their own legal decisions. A wrongful death claim could possibly be an option that they would like to consider, as pursuing such a civil case in Illinois could potentially allow them to seek reparations for damages.
