Driver charged in relation to fatal Illinois car, truck accident
On behalf of Jeffrey Frederick of Frederick & Hagle posted in Truck Accidents on Friday, March 4, 2016.
Though some time may have passed after a serious accident, families of victims who lost their lives in a crash may still feel a considerable void in their lives. If new information surfaces regarding a car or truck accident or if new information comes to light pertaining to the charges leveled against a driver considered at fault, the victims’ families may be particularly interested in that information. In addition to the criminal aspect, the families may also wish to look into civil legal action.
The family of one individual who was killed in an Illinois accident last year may be interested in such information. The accident took place when a 23-year-old woman attempted to make a left turn and crashed into the back of a semi-truck. A passenger in the vehicle suffered fatal injuries in the accident. It was recently reported that the driver of the car involved in the fatal crash has been charged.
Reports stated that the woman is currently facing charges for aggravated DUI relating to a fatal accident and reckless homicide. She is currently in custody and being held on a $500,000 bond. It was noted that the delay in charges was due to authorities waiting on witness statements as part of their investigation.
The family of the victim killed in this truck accident will likely want to follow the criminal proceedings relating to the driver’s case. If she is convicted of the charges leveled against her, that information could potentially be used as evidence in a civil claim if the family wishes to follow such a course. By filing a civil claim, the family may be able to work toward gaining compensation for funeral costs, emotional challenges and other damages permitted under Illinois law.
