Car-truck collision results in fatality in Illinois

Driver error contributes to a considerable number of accidents that take place on the roadway. Though some of these crashes may be considered minor, there are instances in which a driver’s failure to take the correct action could lead to a fatal collision. Such an accident recently took place in Illinois between a car and a semi-truck.

Reports stated that the car was traveling behind the truck, and there were at least two individuals inside the car at the time of the incident. The driver of the car failed to slow his vehicle in time to avoid colliding with the back of the semi-truck, which had slowed for traffic. As a result, both individuals in the car became trapped and had to be cut from the vehicle.

The crash resulted in the passenger in the car suffering fatal injuries. She was reported as being 18 years old. The driver of the car was reported as being a 49-year-old male, and he was transported to the hospital. Details on his injuries were not given. It was also unclear what the relation — if any — between the passenger and driver may have been.

Because this collision resulted in the death of the young woman, her family is undoubtedly distraught about the sudden turn of events. If they feel it could be right for them, they may wish to consider filing a wrongful death claim against the driver considered at fault. The fact that the passenger may have been related to the driver does not bar a claim for damages. A successful claim could allow them to gain compensation for damages permitted under Illinois law.
