Illinois bicycle accident involving van results in fatality

A split second is all it takes for a fatal accident to take place on the roadway. This type of situation could possibly be considered even truer when a bicyclist is involved. A bicycle accident has a high likelihood of resulting in serious injuries or death due to the lack of protection that bicyclists have against motor vehicles.

This type of situation recently resulted in the death of an Illinois cyclist. According to reports, a man driving a van was on his way to work when he attempted to make a left turn. Unfortunately, during the turn, he collided with the cyclist. The driver of the van was noted as being a 63-year-old male.

After the crash, the bicyclist was transported to an area hospital. He succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the event and was pronounced dead at the hospital. It was not reported whether the driver of the van suffered any injuries as a result of the crash. It was reported that authorities believe that neither alcohol nor speed was a factor in the tragic fatal event. The situation was still under investigation at the time of the report.

A bicycle accident that results in a fatality can be difficult to understand for the family members left behind.
