Pedestrian accidents: Civil claim may stem from Illinois death

When an automobile comes in contact with a pedestrian, the outcomes of such an accident can be harrowing. As individuals on foot are much more difficult to see than another vehicle, a momentary distraction or other factor could easily cause serious and potentially fatal pedestrian accidents. When an individual does die from such an event, his or her family may begin exploring their legal options.
One family in Illinois may be interested in their possible legal avenues after a recent incident between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Reports stated that a 65-year-old man was attempting to cross a street when he was struck by a pickup truck that was traveling west. The incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m., and additional information on the accident itself was not available.
The pedestrian was taken from the scene to an area medical center, but he was declared dead almost an hour after the accident. It was not mentioned whether the driver of the pickup truck suffered any injuries. It was also unclear whether any charges may result from the incident, but reports did state that authorities were continuing to investigate.
Pedestrian accidents are always frightening events, and it is unfortunate that this Illinois incident resulted in the death of an individual. If family members believe that it could be right for them, they may wish to explore the option of filing a wrongful death claim against the driver considered at fault for the accident. This claim could allow them to work toward gaining compensation for funeral expenses, pain and suffering and other allowable damages.
